Senate Considers Nine Energy-Related Measures

By Amy Harder, NationalJournal.com

With most Washington energy folks focused on the United Nations climate talks in Copenhagen, the week's events in D.C. are relatively few.

On the Hill, the Energy Subcommittee of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee is holding a hearing tomorrow afternoon, will look at nine energy-related bills, including ones addressing wind and solar energies as well as advanced vehicle technologies. Under Secretary of Energy Kristina Johnson is scheduled to appear.

On Thursday, the full committee will hear from witnesses on the "role of grid-scale energy storage." Scheduled witnesses include the Energy Department's Under Secretary for Science Steven Koonin and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Jon Wellinghoff.

Administration officials will take to the floor in Copenhagen for the first time on Tuesday, with David Sandalow, the Energy Department's assistant secretary for policy and international affairs. EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson will speak Wednesday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on Thursday and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke on Friday, according to the White House.

Next week, Secretary Locke, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, energy czar Carol Browner and chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality Nancy Sutley are scheduled to speak. On Friday the 18th, the conference's concluding day, President Obama is slated to attend.
