Jackson: Jobs, National Security Top Concerns
By Amy Harder, NationalJournal.com
President Obama's top priorities on energy are jobs, national security and a clean environment -- and in that order, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said today at the Washington Auto Show.
"With respect to energy, he has been driven by a number of issues," Jackson said. "His belief is that there are literally millions of jobs available" in the clean energy sector. "Right behind that is national security," she said.
"From my standpoint, the third advantage -- cleaner air, healthier environment -- is just as important," Jackson added.
This focus on jobs may be echoed in Obama's State of the Union address Wednesday. With jobs, the economy and national debt expected to take center stage, the president will likely mention energy and climate change primarily in the context of job creation.
Before delivering a speech and taking a few questions from auto executives, Jackson toured the Washington Auto Show, which this year is showcasing more efficient vehicles such as electric cars.
